Lexi has inherited her love of golf from her father. Her dad played a lot of golf, and he started to play when he was a child. She started playing from a young age and was the youngest athlete to qualify for the US Women's Open at the age of 12 years old in 2007. In 2007, she did not become the winner of the US Women's Open, but won the Aldila Junior Classic to be the second. She was the youngest American Junior Golf Association player (AJGA) and also as being the youngest to be crowned the winner of the Westfield Junior PGA Championship at the period.
